Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 26, 2026
Keyglow ("we", "our", "us") is an app for learning to play the piano on iPad and iPhone. Many of its players are children, so it is built to collect as little as possible. This policy explains what data is processed when you use Keyglow and this website, by whom, and your choices.
1. Your songs and progress stay on your devices and in your iCloud
Everything you do in Keyglow – imported songs, results, stars, practice days, drill scores and settings – is stored on your device. If you are signed in to iCloud, imported songs, results and practice days are also synchronized through your private iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit, so they appear on your other devices. Data in your private iCloud account is handled by Apple under the Apple Privacy Policy; we cannot see it.
Keyglow has no user accounts, never asks for a name or an email address, and we do not run servers that store your songs or progress.
Songs are only read when you choose a MIDI or MusicXML file to open in Keyglow. Keyglow keeps a copy on your device and in your iCloud; nothing is sent to us.
2. Your keyboard, the microphone and Bluetooth
When you connect a MIDI keyboard by cable or Bluetooth, Keyglow receives the notes you play from it. Bluetooth is only used to find and connect MIDI keyboards.
If you choose the microphone, Keyglow listens to your piano to recognise the notes you play. The sound is analysed on your device in memory, and it is never recorded, stored or sent anywhere. The microphone is only on while you play with it selected.
3. Advertising (Google AdMob)
The free version of Keyglow shows banner ads from Google AdMob in the library and menus, never while you play, and offers optional ads you can watch to unlock a feature for the rest of the day.
Because many players are children, every ad request from Keyglow is marked as directed to children and as coming from a user under the age of consent, and is limited to ads suitable for general audiences. Google then serves only non-personalized ads and limits the data it collects; to serve and measure them, Google may still process information such as your IP address, device and app information and ad interactions. Keyglow never asks for permission to track you across apps (App Tracking Transparency), so Google does not receive your device's advertising identifier from Keyglow.
Where the law requires it, for example in some US states, you can make your choices under Settings → Privacy → Ad Privacy Choices.
Buying Keyglow Pro turns off all ads.
More information: How Google uses information from apps that use its services and the Google Privacy Policy.
4. Purchases (Apple and RevenueCat)
The one-time Keyglow Pro purchase is processed by Apple through the App Store, and the app asks a grown-up question before it opens. We never receive your payment details.
We use RevenueCat to verify purchases and to restore them on your devices. RevenueCat receives the purchase transaction from Apple together with a random, anonymous app user ID created by the app. It does not receive your name, contact details or anything about your songs. If you downloaded Keyglow from an Apple Search Ads campaign, Apple's privacy-preserving attribution token is shared with RevenueCat so we can see which search terms lead to purchases; this does not identify you. See the RevenueCat Privacy Policy.
5. Anonymous usage statistics (TelemetryDeck)
To understand how Keyglow is used and to improve it, the app sends anonymous usage events to TelemetryDeck, for example that a song was finished, at which note-bridge step and with how many stars, which kind of keyboard was connected, which drills were played, and whether the purchase screen was viewed. These events never contain song titles, file names, names or anything you type. TelemetryDeck uses a hashed, anonymous identifier and does not track you across apps. See the TelemetryDeck Privacy Policy.
You can turn this off at any time under Settings → Privacy → Share Anonymous Usage Statistics. When it is off, the statistics service is not started at all.
6. Game Center
If you are signed in to Game Center, Keyglow sends your scores and achievements to Apple's Game Center so they appear on leaderboards and in your profile. This is handled by Apple and governed by the Apple Privacy Policy. Keyglow works fully without Game Center, and Apple's Screen Time settings decide what a child's account can do there.
7. Reminders and the weekly report
If you turn on practice reminders, Keyglow schedules local notifications on your device. Nothing is sent to us.
The weekly report for parents and teachers is created on your device. It is only shared if you share it yourself through the share sheet, with the people you choose.
8. Links out of the app
Links to song sources and free sheet music sites sit behind a grown-up question and open in Safari inside the app. What those sites collect is governed by their own privacy policies.
9. This website and the support form
This website does not use analytics or advertising cookies. It sets one cookie that remembers the language you choose.
When you send a message through the support form, your name, email address, message and the page language are sent by email to us using the email service Lettermint. We use them only to answer you, and we delete the email when it is no longer needed. You can also email us directly instead.
10. Children
Keyglow is made for children and adults. Children can use all of it without giving us any personal information: there are no accounts, no chat and no way to contact other players inside the app. Ads are child-directed as described in section 3, and purchases and links out of the app sit behind a grown-up question. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal data, for example through the support form, contact us and we will delete it.
